Mt. Diablo Legal Professionals Association strives to provide excellent speakers on a variety of topics relating to the legal field. We also try to offer MCLE and CCLS credits at as many meetings as possible.

To give you an idea of the quality of speakers and presentations you can expect as a member of our association, below is a list of past speakers and topics.

10/09 The Honorable Mary Ann O'Malley, Presiding Judge of the Contra Costa County Superior Court, and Retired Judge Dan O'Malley were keynote speakers at MDLPA's Annual Appreciation Night. 

7/09 Carolina Rose, Director of J.D., President Legislative Research, Inc. "How to Make Ethical and Winning Use of California Legislative History." MCLE and CCLS credits offered.

5/09 Bay Area author Adina Sara, on her book "100 Words Per Minute: Tales from Behind Law Office Doors."

3/09 Rapid Legal presented "A Day in the Life of a Court Clerk" (MCLE and CCLS credits were offered). 

2/09 Jim Eaneman, Member of the Contra Costa County Civil Grand Jury, "Public Awareness of the Civil Grand Jury." 

1/09 Melissa Notari with Deadlines on Demand, LLC - Calendaring as a Risk Management Stragety (MCLE and CCLS credits were offered).

10/09 The Honorable Mary Ann O'Malley, Contra Costa County Superior Court Judge, was our Keynote Speaker at our Appreciation Night Dinner.

6/08 Mimi Lyster, Director, Court Planning & Litigant Services, Contra Costa County Superior Court - Ms. Lyster spoke about the Court’s Website and the Virtual Self Help Law Center Website, along with other useful information about various court services.

5/08 Robin Pearson, Esq., President, Contra Costa Co. Bar Association - Ms. Pearson spoke on the state of the Bar.

11/07 Leslie Hisaka, Physical Therapist, John Muir Medical Center - Ms. Hisaka spoke on how to set up your work station to be ergonomically correct, and other useful tips to stay healthy on the job.

9/07 Harry Stern, Esq. - Rains Lucia & Wilkinson LLP - "Legal Issues Concerning the Representation of Peace Officers" (included MCLE and CCLS credits).

8/07 Summer Special – Brandon Wai formerly of Sarnoff Court Reporters and Legal Technologies (now with Paulson/Esquire) - Brandon familiarized us with the tools and technology available for capturing, analyzing, and effectively utilizing deposition testimony. (Included MCLE and CCLS credits.)

9/06 Lisa Hutton, Chair of Paralegal and Legal Studies, JFK School of Law - Lisa spoke about the ramifications of Business and Prof. Code section 6450 Regulation of the Paralegal, the two tests that are offered involving certifying paralegals, and any new proposed legislation that involves paralegals or legal assistants. (Included MCLE and CCLS credits.)

7/06 Sue Granelli, ProLaw - Sue shared the benefits to paralegals and legal secretaries of this calendaring/case management software.

6/06 Alma J. Gilligan, CCLS - Topic: California Certified Legal Secretary. Alma shared with us the benefits of certification, eligibility to become a CCLS, application and exam process, contents of the exam, scoring, grading, etc. There was also be a sample mock exam administered to test our knowledge.
